I write and speak a lot about ‘being in the flow’ of one’s life. Being in the flow is when you are doing something that excites you. You feel that it is effortless and wonderful, and time just seems to pass by like nothing.

In January of this year, myself and a good friend started a Retreat business called Soul Circle Retreats. For years we had talked casually about ‘doing something’ together in the Wellness arena… and so finally last summer we started putting together what that ‘something’ would be. From there, the concept of wellness retreats and workshops was developed.

Last month, we kicked off our first weekend retreat: The Power of Purpose retreat was held in the Boston area. This group brought together 8 individuals who were in their 20’s and were all seeking increased self-awareness and purposeful living strategies. We had a jam-packed weekend of content and also lots of good food and relaxing breaks.

What struck me and my partner Tammy, was the depth of character and the wisdom each of the participants possessed. For young adults, I was inspired by them. They were led to this retreat opportunity through a faith-based group they belonged to. Their groundedness in their faith and God was astounding. Each of the retreat participants was searching for answers in at least one area of their lives; however, their commitment to their religion provided an anchor for them when they felt lost. It was truly a beautiful thing to witness their ‘coming home’ to that which gave them peace and guidance.

It led me examine my own faith. Do I come home to myself through this vehicle in my own life? Am I aligned with my faith in how I live my life? Would I take a whole weekend out of my life to become centered in this aspect of living? I’d like to say yes I would, but I am not entirely sure that is true. Their beautiful presence throughout the weekend and my own reflections on my life truly allowed for an environment of deep learning and soul-searching.

As I do more and more of this work, I am reminded that part of my ‘Purpose’ is to role model love of self and love of life. I truly loved so many parts of my weekend in Boston: I was honored to be there and I hope, really hope, I was able to impart new knowledge as well as a way to go deeper into understanding oneself and one’s ultimate reason for being here. It reminds me of the saying “Do what you love and it will never be wrong.” I was doing what I loved during this weekend and I am grateful to my higher power for the skills and presence to be in this space with others.
