As I have mentioned before, I really was moved by the book One Word That Will Change Your Life (Britton, Page, & Sutherland). In choosing one word to represent what you’d like more of in your life for the year, it serves as a true guide.
I saw this for me last year, when my “one word” was Simplify. Sighhhh…it brings calm just writing it. It evokes a physical lightness in me…just the idea of simplifying is so nice. It was definitely the right word for me last year, as I moved, downsized my home, got rid of literally half of my possessions, traded my SUV in for a small car, and just stopped trying so hard all of the time. I gave myself permission to ‘do’ less and ‘be’ more. Truly underneath this craving for simplicity was a desire to connect more with people. A desire to have experiences such as travel more and be a part of fun events. To be out in the world more present and less distracted. Ultimately I needed head space…. and I had to take real, measurable action to get it.
So after moving and downsizing, what’s it like? Do I have more head space, feel freer or lighter?
The answer is very simple.
Yes.
