In your life do you ever feel Bored? I do. What is boredom to you?

To me, its a dull ache in my mind, like a feeling of “what’s next?”

“Where’s the excitement?”

“What’s on the agenda for this weekend?’

“What will stimulate my mind and senses and emotions next?”

There are times I almost cannot tolerate the neutrality of my life. In a sense, I have truly arrived. I own a beautiful home on a river. I drive a nice car. I am successful in two careers that I love. I have a loving husband and two great kids. I have lots of friends and social opportunities. I am athletic and am in good shape. I am surrounded by the ‘things’ that the good life is supposed to be about. Are you too?

My guess is probably, since you are reading this blog. So why or how in the world can I experience “Boredom?” I have access to “stuff to do” all the damn time. What is wrong with me?

What if… just, what if… I re-frame my boredom to be an opportunity for stillness? What lies in the spaces in between doing? What is possible to learn about myself, my life, in these spaces? When all the laundry is done, the kids are at friends, and I am by myself with N O T H I N G to do… where will I find myself?

In these spaces of stillness lie great treasures. In these spaces we can let go of trapped emotions. We cry… and get angry… or feel the loneliness of a certain aspect of our life. Our minds and bodies can finally let go and be true to ourselves. The stillness offers a chance for our intuition to come in and give us a nudge in a certain direction: “Pay attention to this opportunity” or “call Marie” or “say no to this request from Tom.”

Our intuition is finally able to have center stage and do what its meant to do–which is direct our lives for our highest good. Stillness allows our bodies to finally rest. We can pay attention to that pain in our back, or the stiffness in our knees, or the headache that just isn’t going away. We can care for our ‘selves,’ and we can listen to what our body is trying to tell us about our lives and how out-of-balance we are.

Will you listen?

Will you pay attention to the greater wisdom that stillness is offering you?

Will I?

Let’s make a pact. Let’s make a pact together today. Let’s allow stillness to replace boredom. We invite stillness into our lives to teach us what it is we still need to learn. We invite stillness into our hearts to allow ourselves to feel our trapped emotions. We invite stillness into our bodies so that we may heal. And we invite stillness into our spirit so that we come home to the truth of our lives.
